Visit Hillel International to discover more ways to connect to Jewish Student Organizations around the world.
UTK Jewish Student Organization is a recognized Student Activity Group and is a student-run organization. Hillel provides fantastic opportunities for developing leadership, planning, marketing, communication, and grant writing skills. You can design and implement programs, and interact with other campus student groups.
Each Friday, students come together for a fun-filled, relaxing meal--a great way to end the rigorous academic week. Shabbat and holiday dinners are held on a regular basis in the Great Room of the International House on campus or hosted at the homes of local Jewish community members.
Jewish students are invited to High Holy Day and Shabbat services at all of our local congregations. Please check with JSO/Hillel Leadership for times, details, and transportation.
We have over 80 Jewish faculty members at UTK and each fall we host a special off-campus event for students and faculty to meet, network, and explore academic and professional opportunities.
Nearly one quarter of Jewish students throughout North America attend schools with small Jewish communities and limited resources. The Soref Initiative, established through the generosity of Samuel and Helene Soref, provides online resources and a communication network for Jewish students and faculity advisors. The majority of funding for UTK Hillel comes from the Knoxville Jewish Alliance Annual Campaign.
If you are a new student, we will deliver a welcome gift to you on campus. Just contact JSO/Hillel Director Deborah Oleshansky, firstname.lastname@example.org.
