Camp Staff

We have always prided ourselves on our excellent staff. Counselors and Specialists are selected on the basis of their qualifications and experience. Each staff member is screened through a series of personal interviews and references and background checks to ensure his or her suitability to work in our camp. Milton Collins Day Camp is proud to include many staff members that have been involved with our camp for a number of years. Our Specialists include individuals trained in Art, Drama, Sports, Swimming Lessons, Nature and Science, Tennis and other specialty sports. The Specialists work daily with our campers in order to teach new skills encourage each camper to explore new interests
All staff members complete an intensive orientation and training process which includes water safety training as well as instruction on developmentally appropriate child/staff interactions by a social service professional. All staff are Red Cross certified in CPR and First Aid, and life guards have Red Cross Lifeguard
Swim lessons are taught by certified Water Safety Instructors


Sarah Price, Camp Director

 

 

Sarah is a native Knoxvillian who graduated from Farragut High School.
She has a B.S. in biology and an M.S. in Education from the University of Tennessee. She has taught at Central High School for 5 years. Sarah has worked at the AJCC for ten years, first as a counselor for MCDC, a pre-school teacher, an after-care director , an associate director and last year as co-director for MCDC.

Core Program

The CORE PROGRAM takes place during the morning hours and includes:

  • Sports activities
  • Outdoor games
  • Drama
  • Music
  • Arts and crafts
  • Tennis instruction
  • Nature and camp craft
  • Challenge/adventure activities
  • Both instructional and free swim

    Monday Specials - Each Monday afternoon, special programs are offered.
    They include special guests and fun activities for the delight of the campers.
    Electives - Children choose two afternoon electives each week that may include the following:

  • Dance
  • Sports
  • Science
  • Chess
  • Legos
  • Nature Activities
  • Model Rocketing
  • Kite Building
  • Specific Arts/Crafts
  • Many Others

    Five of the weeks during the summer include a one day extended-stay program at no additional cost.
    On these occasions, kindergarten and first grade stay until 6:00 p.m; second and third graders experience an on-site overnight stay, and 4th–10th graders experience either an on-site or off-site camping trip.

    MAZEL TOV IN 2009

    to MCDC director Sarah Price, Associate Director Evan Chasan, Jeff Gubitz and Seth Schweitzer, VP of Children and Youth. 

    The American Camping Association Accreditation review team visited the camp last week and announced that we would receive a score of 100%.  This is a phenomenal achievement and shows everyone what a great program we have.
